Spellweaving

Spellweaving is the uncommon practice of finding those loose threads, or tapping into existing vortexes and gathering the colors together. Each color has been found to have unique properties, capable of influencing both the physical and metaphysical world when properly manipulated by those who can touch them.

To begin Spellweaving, a person must enter a meditative dual-state, relaxing their focus enough to allow their eyes to fall into a pseudo-daydreaming trance to “see” the Braid, while maintaining a high enough level of concentration to command precise action. Within this trance, a weaver channels their inner magic to lure colors close, then manipulates the Braid simultaneously through visualization and deliberate physical contortion, the body acting as a loom for reality itself.

Spellweaving is still in its infancy. Most have stumbled upon their ability by accident, finding themselves suddenly able to see the Braid, and most of those have hurt, scarred, or even killed themselves while “playing” with it. This often results in discolorations of the skin, or worse: physical and/or mental mutations. These wild, unstable weavers are derisively called “stains”, a term meant to mark their lack of control and discipline.

Others, just beyond the rudimentary level, are “hedgeweavers.” These are Spellweavers who have achieved enough focus to safely channel one, or even two, colors well enough to eke out a living, or at least to avoid destroying themselves.

True Spellweavers are individuals who have undergone training, whether self-taught through years of grueling trial or guided by formal instruction, and learned to manipulate a broad spectrum of colors. Their skill makes them powerful, revered, and often feared, for the difference between a master and a martyr lies in a heartbeat’s worth of control.
