Varene is the only daughter of Varius Goerwhey, the King of Clubs. Raised by a cruel man in a dangerous world, she learned early that strength was the only language her father respected. When the Bone King’s desperate attempt to end his own existence cracked Tistrofel open, Varene entered the Tournament of Champions, determined to prove herself worthy of the throne she had never been meant to inherit. She is as fierce a fighter as her king, tempered by a steel will and a razor-sharp mind.
She has vowed to leave a legacy that will change the very foundations of Tistrofel. At first she dreamed of defeating her father in the arena to prove she was stronger than the man who forged and scarred her. But when the kings were forced to name champions, Varius chose her without hesitation. Now, instead of standing against him, she must stand in his place and face those she has come to call friends.
Varene stands 6' tall and weighs 165 pounds of honed muscle and skill. She walks into every room as if she owns it, commanding attention with presence alone. In the western lands she became a notorious legend—known for long nights of drinking, brawling, and brief, blazing flings. Every bit her father’s daughter, she wears armor she forged with her own hands and wields a massive two-handed claymore she lovingly calls “Clancy’s Boom.” She can fight with the greatsword alone or pair it with her towering shield “Clancy,” adapting her style to whatever the battlefield demands.
More recently, when she is not working in her father’s forges or fields, Varene spends her time roaming the torn lands with her companions in The Chosen. Together, they have come to understand just how deeply the world has been wounded. When the Bone King was raised in a magical explosion, the land of Tistrofel split open, revealing an underground world teeming with dangerous creatures and wild magic. Varene does not shy away from those depths. She charges into them. Alongside The Chosen, she descends into the chasms carved by the Bone King’s creation, determined to carve her name—and her own future—into the broken stone.
